2019 Elections: Kogi Monarch Warns Against Violence

Following the politically induced violent attacks in the area, traditional rulers in Ijumu local government area of Kogi state on Wednesday read the riot act to politicians, warning them to against heating up the polity. The local government area traditional council also tasked political parties in the area to avoid hate speech and acts capable of disrupting the existing peace in Ijumu land. The Olujumu of Ijumu Kingdom and chairman Ijumu local government area traditional council, Oba Williams Ayeni, said this during a meeting with chairmen of political parties in the area held at his palace at Iyara. According to him, the call became imperative in view of the recent clashes by supporters of some political parties which he noted was uncalled for. The traditional ruler stated that the area in the past was known for peace and tranquillity, saying any acts that could disrupt the existing peace would not be tolerated. BREAKING NEWS: Oby Ezekwesili Withdraws From Presidential Race

The presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), Oby Ezekwesili. Oby Ezekwesili, the presidential candidate of the Allied Congress Party of Nigeria (ACPN), has withdrawn from the February 16 presidential election. In a statement released early on Thursday morning, Mrs Ezekwesili said she stepped down from the election to help build a coalition to defeat the All Progressive Congress and the peoples Democratic Party in the election. When reached to confirm a statement on her withdrawal from the race to become the number one citizen of the country seen on Twitter, an aide to Ms Ezekwesili, Ozioma Ubabukoh, confirmed that the statement was genuine. “Yes, she has withdrawn. It is true. You can run with it,” he said.  A  close associate of Mrs Ezekwesili, Aisha Yusufu, also confirmed the withdrawal. More details to come

Anyigba Records First Rainfall In 2019

Anyigba, which is home to Kogi State University located in Dekina local government area of Kogi State Today, the 15th Day of January, recorded its first rain fall in 2019 Our reporter records that the rain which was preceded by a mild breeze, started at about 1:57 am and lasted till around past 2 AM. The rain arrived much earlier than last year when it came in March. Apart from 2014 which experienced early showers, the rain always set in around March. The heatwave that had tormented Anyigba residents has eased for a more humid weather with farmers warming for an early commencement of the cropping season. The picture of an egg has broken the Guniess World Record Of 'Most Liked Picture On Instagram'. The picture which was posted by an Instagram page "World Egg Record" on the 4th of January, 2019 beat Kylie Jenner's world record of 18 million likes on a single picture by hitting a total of over 39 million likes and still counting as at the time of this report. The page has since been verified on Instagram as they are several other fake accounts. It has also accumulated a total number of 5.5 million IG followers and 1.8 million comments.

APC future in Kogi is bleak — Akanle, ex-DSS chief

A chieftain of All Progressives Congress, APC, in Kogi State, Dr. Toyin Akanle, has joined the race for Kogi West senaatorial ticket for 2019 election. Dr Williams Akanle aspired to represent Kogi West in the upper chamber of the National Assembly on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) but lost at the party primaries. The former National Director of the Department of State Service, DSS, whose aspiration was the third in a row, says he has, however, not lost hope. Although the Yagba East born politician believes the future is bleak for Kogi West. Describing himself as a bridge between the old and new generation in the senatorial district, Akanle recalled when the senatorial district was known for quality education and enterprise.

ASUU strike continues - President, Prof Ogunyemi

The fate of  undergraduates and admission seekers into  public universities may continue to hang as the Academic Staff Union of Universities, ASUU, yesterday, vowed to continue the nine-week-old strike. ASUU  National President, Professor Biodun Ogunyemi, said  universities lecturers  had  rejected the Federal Government offer  of money to end the strike because it was far from their demands. He confirmed that the Federal Government had,  last Tuesday, through the office of the Accountant-General of the Federation and the Ministry of Finance presented  to the union the evidence of  the payment of N15.4 billion to  universities. Ogunyemi on telephone said that after due consultations with its executives across the country, they have resolved to continue the ongoing strike until the Federal Governments pays at least N220 billion out of N1.1 trillion it owed the public universities. Many feared dead as Trailer rams into Market #ekitimourns

More than 20 persons have reportedly died on last night in Iworoko, Ekiti State as a trailer rammed into a market, while it was coming from the Ifaki area of the state. While trying to use the kerps on the road as a stoppage, the trailer was said to have lost control, rammed into a minibus, and swerved onto the other side of the road, claiming lives and properties. At the scene of the accident, many persons were seen wailing as the accident happened during the market’s peak period. As at the time of filing this report, several people are still under the trailer, waiting to be rescued with the police and other agencies yet to make a statement on the incident. Thousands to miss visa appointments as US embassy closes indefinitely

Thousands of Nigerians will miss their visa appointments as the United States embassy in Abuja and its consulate in Lagos have shutdown indefinitely. This implies that persons who have applied for tourist, study, business visas, immigrant visas or any other travel document will have to cancel their plans. The US embassy in Nigeria said in a Facebook post that the development was caused by the government shutdown in the US. The statement read, “Due to the current US government shutdown, the American centres located in the embassy, Abuja and Consulate-General, Lagos are unfortunately closed. They will re-open once the US government shutdown is resolved.
