Ogga community in Yagba West Local Government Area of Kogi State has been attacked by some suspected Fulani herdsmen, killing one person. According to a source in the community, a farmer, Mr. Ariyo Aina, 35, was allegedly killed by the Fulani herdsmen on his way to the farm on May 18. Also, the National President of Ogga Progressive Union (OPU), Mr. Bamidele Olure, while speaking with journalists on phone yesterday in Lokoja, Aina was murdered on his way to his farm at about 9a.m. last Saturday. He said the herdsmen victim left his home for the farm at about 9a.m. last Saturday, but to was his slain body that was found by other farmers who were going to the their farms thereafter. The Independent National Electoral Commission INEC has shifted the governorship election in Kogi and Bayelsa states to November 16. Initially slated for November 2, the commission decided to shift the polls following appeals by the Bayelsa state government and stakeholders for a shift as the earlier date is legally set aside as Thanksgiving Day in Bayelsa. The Kogi Coordinator of the National Y outh Service Corps (NYSC), Mrs Oludolapo Ahile, has died in an auto crash. The Assistant Director, Public Relations, Kogi NYSC, Mr Adedapo Tayo, told News Agency of Nigeria (NAN) that the coordinator was involved in a ghastly accident alongside her husband on Keffi-Akwanga-Lafia highway in Nassarawa State. Tayo told NAN that the accident occurred at Lafia axis of the highway at about 2 p.m on Thursday, May 16, after her vehicle somersaulted twice and veered into the bush. Tayo added that the late coordinator and her husband with two other occupants were on their way to Tiv land in Benue for the burial/funeral of her father in-law. He said that the four occupants of the vehicle were rushed to the hospital and it was unfortunate that Mrs Ahile died the early hours of Friday, May 17. A combined team of anti-vandals, armed squad of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) Kogi State Command have arrested seven suspects for allegedly siphoning and trading diesel meant for Dangote Cement Company, Obajana. The suspects were caught selling diesels from their trucks to illegal dealers. The seven suspects, who were paraded by the Kogi State Commandant Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corp (NSCDC), Commandant Ayodele Philip, were arrested in Osara Adavi Local Government area as they made attempt to evade arrest but were quickly overpowered by the gallant men of the NSCDC, who had placed them on surveillance for weeks. Commandant Ayodele told newsmen that one of the suspects, who drove one of the trucks with registration number TWD 212 XA, was arrested while siphoning diesels into two 25 litres jericans alongside two of his motor boys. An undergraduate from the Kogi State University identified as Daniel Usman, has allegedly been shot dead in Kogi state, during the Presidential and National Assembly polls in Ajetachi, Dekina Local Government Area (LGA), Anyigba, Kogi State. Some suspected thugs were allegedly said to have gone from one polling unit to another to harass voters to vote for a particular party. The deceased's refusal to comply with these thugs led to his untimely death. Some hours before his death, Daniel took to Facebook to preach against electoral violence. This was his last post before he was killed. Late Daniel was only 19 years old and had just gained admission into the state university. The commissioner of Police in Kogi State, Hakeem Busari has confirmed the killing. However, details of the incident still remains sketchy as at the time of this report.

The Kogi State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has implored acting Inspector-General of Police, Adamu Mohammed, to take advantage of last Saturday’s postponement of the general election to look into police partisanship that could have  marred the electoral process in the state if the polls had held. Retired  Deputy Controller General of Prisons, Dr Adewale Oloyede, has been murdered alongside his orderly, Dauda Yusuf Michael, a Senior Inspector of Prisons, SIP, by yet to be identified gunmen near Osara town in Kogi State. Spokesman of the Nigerian Prisons Service, DCP Francis Enobore, told newsmen yesterday, in Abuja that the retired officer was travelling to Lagos in his private car when they were attacked at about 3 pm last Friday.  Prison He said:  “A medical doctor by profession, the late officer headed the Directorate of Health and Social Welfare for several years before retiring in 2007. “Until his demise, Oloyede was a member of the National Stakeholders Committee on Prisons Reform and De-congestion under the chairmanship of the Federal Capital Territory Chief Judge, Honorable Justice Ishaq Bello. “As relevant authorities progress in their investigation, it is our collective prayers that the perpetrators will be arrested soonest and brought to book.” ...

Following the politically induced violent attacks in the area, traditional rulers in Ijumu local government area of Kogi state on Wednesday read the riot act to politicians, warning them to against heating up the polity. The rain arrived much earlier than last year when it came in March. Apart from 2014 which experienced early showers, the rain always set in around March.
